The Street Division of the Public Works Department provides maintenance and repair for the City of Bloomington’s approximately 237 lane miles of streets. It is tasked with street paving and resurfacing; maintenance repairs to the City’s alley network; construction and installation of sidewalks, curbs and accessible ramps; repair and maintenance of lane markings, street signs and traffic control devices; snow removal operations; street sweeping and leaf collection. In addition, the Division works with the City’s Urban Forester to provide care and maintenance of trees in the public right of way in order to reduce accidents.
Data is included per year of Street Division operations since 2004.

Data regarding the yearly operations of the Sanitation Division of Public Works. Sanitation is responsible for providing weekly collection and disposal of household solid waste and curbside recycling pick-up, as well as seasonal bi-weekly yard waste from residences inside the corporate City limits.
Sanitation also collects large items, such as furniture and appliances, from residences on a request basis. Additionally, Sanitation provides trash collection for City Hall, downtown containers, City parks, various City facilities and numerous special events in the community.
A couple of notes regarding these statistics:
The City of Bloomington Sanitation Modernization Program officially launched in October 2017. This program eliminated trash and yard waste stickers in favor of directly billing customers for their monthly trash cart rentals and yard waste pick-ups via their utility bills.
Also part of the modernized sanitation program, the City of Bloomington's recycling operations converted from co-mingled to single stream collection in 2017. This means that all recyclable materials (metal, cans, glass, fiber, paper, etc.) are now all collected together instead of separately.
Additionally, fiber and scrap rebates provided to the City of Bloomington by its recycling provider were effectively ended in 2017. This was largely due to major changes in international demand and fluctuations in the domestic commodities market.
Note: Public Works Department division data sets prior to 2014 are available upon request.

Annual statistics about operations of the Parking Services Division of the Public Works Department. The Parking Services Division has responsibility for all parking operations, including meter enforcement and collections, meter maintenance, special events, customer service, the school crossing guard program, parking permit sales and distribution, citing illegally parked vehicles, and managing and maintaining the City's 4 structured parking facilities and 5 surface parking lots.
Several notes on these statistics:
The Parking Services Division formally began operations in January of 2021. It merged the former Parking Facilities Division of the Public Works Department (which was responsible only for managing operations of the City's parking garages) with the Parking Enforcement Division of the Bloomington Police Department. Additionally, customer support personnel for many parking functions had previously been members of the City Controller's Office, but were moved to the Parking Services Division beginning in 2021.
Note: Public Works Department division data sets prior to 2014 are available upon request.

Taste and odor issues with drinking water stem from the presence of the organic compounds known as methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin. These two compounds are not harmful to human health. Rather, the presence of MIB and geosmin negatively affect the drinking water's aesthetics (geosmin causes an earthy smell, while MIB causes a musty taste). Taste and odor thresholds vary from person to person, but normally geosmin can be detected as low as 7-15 parts per trillion, while MIB can be detected as low as 20-30 parts per trillion.

Total organic carbon (TOC) is the total amount of organic matter in the water, and is used to evaluate water quality. TOC concentrations are regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act through the Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule and the Stage 2 Disinfectant Byproduct Rule. Both Rules identify removal requirements based on source water characteristics such as alkalinity and source water TOC levels. Generally, TOC is removed through the addition of coagulants during the flocculation and sedimentation processes and through the filtration process.
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) measures the total amount of organic matter that can pass through a filter no larger than 0.45 µm. Since high levels of DOC may interfere with disinfection efficiency, DOC concentrations are monitored for removal before the disinfection stage of the water treatment process.
Both TOC and DOC are related to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). When leftover organic matter reacts with residual chlorine, DBPs may form (please see "Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs)" dataset for more information).
