Vaccination and Testing Information

Last updated Thursday 03/23/23
  • Starting on June 19, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 6 months to 5 years. The CDC is recommending all kids in this age group get vaccinated with either Pfizer or Moderna. Check first with your pediatrician to see if they have the vaccine and can administer it. If they do not yet have the vaccine, go to https://ourshot.in.gov to find local drug stores with open appointments.
  • Starting on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, folks can go to https://covidtests.gov to order in English or Spanish up to four free at-home tests per residence. A call line will be set up for those who are unable to order online. Once you have ordered your tests, it will take 7-12 days by US Postal Service for them to arrive, so don't wait until you need the tests to order them!
  • Starting on Saturday, January 22, 2022, private insurance companies are required to reimburse individuals for up to eight rapid at-home COVID tests per month.
  • The CDC announced on November 2nd, 2021 their approval of Pfizer vaccinations for children ages 5-11. The Pfizer pediatric dose series is similar to the adults as it is 2 doses, 21 days apart but contains 1/3 of the dose given to individuals 12 years of age or older. Vaccinations for children will also be made available at local pharmacies and mobile clinics. You can make an appointment by going to ourshot.in.gov. All of this information and more can be found on the Monroe County Website at www.co.monroe.in.us.
  • Any Indiana resident age 12 and older is now eligible to schedule a vaccination appointment. Please note that anyone younger than 18 must receive the Pfizer vaccine. It is the only vaccine to receive Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA for that age group. Proof of age will be required at the time of vaccination.
  • For questions, click here for the full list of every group currently eligible to receive the vaccine.
  • Anyone in one of the above categories can schedule a vaccination at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211 if they do not have access to a computer or need assistance registering. Please be patient, as vaccine supply is limited. Additional groups will be eligible as soon as vaccine supplies permit.

City of Bloomington COVID-19 Wastewater Monitoring

The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) in cooperation with the Indiana Finance Authority is participating in a monitoring program which tests wastewater for coronavirus. From August through December of 2020, wastewater professionals from CBU collected samples three times each week at eight sites across Bloomington, including each of the two wastewater treatment plants. Throughout 2021 samples have been collected from the two wastewater treatment plants. Testing of those samples is conducted by multiple private, independent laboratories in an effort to gauge viral prevalence in the community.  Learn more at https://bton.in/rcAnW
